Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of an arched background of gold sun rays behind a black mountain peak charged in base with a gold demi-fire bomb emitting a scarlet flame all above a scarlet scroll inscribed "INSTANT FIREPOWER" in gold letters.

Symbolism
The black mountain peak symbolizes West Virginia, nicknamed the "Mountain State," and also alludes to the state's vast deposits of coal as potential fire power.  The sun rays with the flamed fire bomb symbolize the alertness and the combat readiness of the Group.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 38th Ordnance Group on 25 November 1969.  It was redesignated for the 38th Support Group with the description and symbolism updated effective 16 October 2006.
